Waterborne illness is a leading cause of child mortality, killing 5500 children per day.  Approximately 1/6th of the world’s population, or 1.2 billion people, lack access to clean drinking water.

Water scarcity disproportionately affects young girls who are typically responsible for gathering water.  They often carry 40 pound buckets 4 miles each day, leaving little time for school and minimal chance of breaking the associated cycle of poverty and gender inequality.  Long walks to remote water sources place young girls in danger of rape and sexual assault.  Half of the world's girls attend schools without sanitation, raising privacy concerns that cause many to drop out upon reaching puberty.

groundSWELL is dedicated to breaking the poverty cycle, educational gap, and physical dangers that a lack of water brings to young girls and families in poor countries.  Help us change their lives by drilling wells in their villages, giving them new hope and opportunity.

You can also support groundSWELL by purchasing aluminum water bottles with the groundSWELL logo for $10 each ($13 with shipping) by emailing your order to groundSWELLcharity@gmail.com

Thanks so much for your generosity!
